Golden eggs in Antwerp. Severe shortage in eggs towards Pesach
The price of eggs in Antwerp has climbed to 9 Euro per tray, and the members of the Hareidi community will be forced to find an alternative for Pesach. The reason: a law which demanded of the chicken-coop owners to make a considerable thinning out

One of the more useful products on Pesach is eggs. It seems that the kehilla in Antwerp will be forced to find an alternative this year, as eggs have become a commodity in their city.
The price of a pack of 30 eggs has climbed to 9 Euro, an astronomical sum by all standards. A Hareidi egg marketer tells Behadrey Haredim, that the price of eggs doubled itself this year and sky-rocketed. "Pesach is known as the festival of eggs. This year people stopped buying eggs in the shop or at marketers, and are buying eggs in the special Gmachim which are subsidizing the eggs with money of Kimcha Depischa.
People are buying less eggs this year, as the price of eggs is high even after subsidy. We are used to see the armored Brinks cars transferring money to banks, and diamonds to the stock market, now we have to take eggs inside an armored car for fear of robbery", says the egg seller.
It seems that the reason for the extremely high price stems from a law passed recently in Europe, at the initiative of the Green organizations, which demanded of the chicken coop owners to thin them out, and so a severe shortage in eggs came about.
