Turkish Prime Minister Rejip Tayip Arduan continues to use Operation Solid Rock in the Gaza Strip as an excuse to lash out at Israel. Last night, at a rally held before the presidential elections in his country, he once again attacked the IDF operation, which he said was not meant to protect Israeli settlements, but cut down the next generation of Palestinians. "Israel murders mothers so they could not give birth," he said in a speech to hundreds of thousands of people.

Prime Minister of Turkey again compared Israeli policy to that of Nazi Germany, an anti-Semitic statement which had previously earned him international criticism and rebuke from the U.S. government. "Just as Hitler sought to establish a pure race, so too Israel persecutes today for the same purpose," he said to his enthusiastic supporters in Istanbul.

"Israel kills women so they could not give birth to the Palestinians, they kill the babies so that do not grow up, they kill the men so they could not fight and defend their country," Arduan continued his contentious statements. "They will drown in the blood they shed themselves."

Next week more than 50 million Turks are expected to get to the polls and vote in the presidential elections. It seems that Arduan, who is considered the leading candidate in the race, is using the fighting in Gaza and the foreign policy of his country, to achieve the last votes that will help him secure the election.

"I think the foreign policy issues are utilized for local politics to win votes, but it creates different problems and pushes the local government into a corner," a Turkish policy expert told Reuters. Unfortunately, it seems that not only Arduan usese hatred towards Israel for his own purposes, but also the other candidates who do likewise.

For example, the Kurdish presidential candidate, who is in third place according to current polls, urged Arduan to sever economic and military ties with Israel immediately. "Forget the shouts," said the candidate. "If you really want to help the Palestinian people you should stop manipulating the people. Only a significant sanction will stop the Israeli policy of massacre."
