"I thank Hashem for the miracle he made for me," opens Meyer Mendeledel, a resident of Shave Shomron, 71, who was hit by gunfire which was fired at him this morning from a Palestinian vehicle while standing at a hitchhiking station of the Kedumim settlement. "I cannot describe the miracle with words, and if not for the miracle, I would not be talking to you now."
Mendeledel, a veteran resident of Samaria, was today (Monday) at a hitchhiking station on his way home to Shave Shomron, "an Arab car stopped next to me," he recalls in a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim, "and asked me how to reach Nablus? I found it strange that an Arab asks such a question, but I explained to him that he should go 'straight' and added in Arabic 'dogri', a word meaning 'straight' in Hebrew.
"The Palestinians reversed the car and asked me: 'dogri?' then continued driving and immediately I heard a gunshot. I noticed my leg was bleeding; I asked a guy standing opposite me to give me the sweater he was holding to stop the bleeding, and immediately all the troops came into the arena."
• In light of recent cases in Judea and Samaria, are you afraid?
"Fear is a personal matter, I'm not afraid. But I do feel the need to request of Boogie Ya'alon one thing. Boogie! You received an important role to serve as defense minister. Your first task is to eliminate immediately the seeds of the next intifada. It is clear to me that the Arabs had a loaded gun and he just looked for the first victim to shoot him."
