Rubinstein's battle: Sudanese expulsion from Bnei Brak

Mayor of Bnei Brak, Avraham Rubinstein, declared war against the Sudanese flood in the city.
In recent years quite a few charedim purchased apartments in Pardes Katz for cheap prices, divided them into several units, and for a long time they rent them to Sudan and Eritrea refugees at inflated prices. But this business initiative made life unbearable in the ultra-Orthodox becoming neighborhood.
Even before Rubinstein came into office, the municipality has set a goal to eradicate the phenomenon, but nothing has been done in practice.
This week Rubinstein summoned a number of senior Dan Region police and municipal officials to discuss measures to be taken against the Sudanese residing in the neighborhood without a license, as well as against landlords.
Among other things, they brought up the need to increase the overt and covert patrols between the Sudanese and the prosecution of illegal residents. At the same time, Rubinstein held another meeting with municipal and legal officials, which raised the legal matter of split apartments and renting them to the Sudanese.
Some of the participants at the meeting said that there are split apartment owners, and rent them to dozens of Sudanese for the amount of 100-200 dollars a month for rent, thus increasing the financial revenues on the expense of other residents.
Therefore the mayor ordered to form portfolios until after Pesach, which will later be formulated into indictments against apartment splitters. The mayor asked to refresh the urban policy that the municipal prosecutor's request will be fines in amounts of several hundred percent more than in the past. Also, they are considering the legal possibility of publishing the names of landlords after the indictment.
