At least 40 people were killed in the afternoon (Tuesday) during a strong earthquake that struck Iran - reported the Iranian news agency Press TV. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake was a magnitude of 7.8 degrees on the Richter scale.
According to the report, the noise was felt at 15:14 (local time). It is centered in south - eastern Iran, near the border with Pakistan, at a depth of 120 kilometers under the ground. According to various reports it was also felt in the capital of India, New Delhi.

Todays earthquake occurred just a week after another powerful earthquake in the Islamic republic took place which killed more than 30 people. The same earthquake, magnitude 6.3 degrees, 800 people were injured. It took place 89 kilometers from the city of Bushehr, Iran, which is located at a nuclear power plant.
Iran's seismology institute at Tehran University said that the epicenter of the earthquake last week was in Kaki.
