Report: Assad is "totally serious" in relation to his threat to open a front in the Golan

Lebanese newspaper reports: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is "totally serious" in relation to his intention to open a new front against Israel in the Golan.

The newspaper Al - Akhbar, considered close to Hezbollah, said today (Monday) that Assad met with Jordanian journalists and told them: "I'm not going to send to Israel improvised shells randomly from time to time," but "resistance will be calculated and sustained, and we will always keep the initiative and fix the scene of conflict to serve the struggle and hurt the enemy."

Assad also said, according to the report: "Syria will not give up its national principles, the Arab identity and commitments. We will not stop to help the 'resistance' and will not give an inch of the occupied territories. Additionally, we will not give up our independence. I'm willing to give up a sacrifice that Syria will not fall victim to the Americans and the Zionists, and to the rest of the infidels and the Gulf States."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today: "We see a new Middle East, it is sprawling. We see it in all sectors, especially in the north with Syria."
Will the Obama administration arm the rebels in Syria this week?

U.S. President Barack Obama may decide this week to supply weapons to rebel groups trying to overthrow the moderate regime of Bashar Assad in Syria, the news agencies reported.

The government will examine the possibility to ban flights in the airspace of Syria and reinforce the U.S. air force in order to enforce the ban in an effort to prevent the Syrian Air Force planes to bomb rebel targets, but the chances for such a decision are mild.

Obama administration's willingness to consider arming the rebels is due to the strengthening of the Assad forces in the arena and intends to attack the city of Homs, which is in the hands of the rebels in an effort to cut off the rebel forces south of the country and open a corridor for Assad forces from Damascus to the Mediterranean.

At this time there are approximately 5,000 Hezbollah fighters in Syria and help the forces in an effort to repel the rebels from the key city Kosair, near the border with Lebanon. Rebel leaders warned the Obama administration's effort to topple the Assad regime may take a devastating blow if the rebels did not receive assistance.

Foreign Minister John Kerry postponed his visit to Israel and three other countries in the Middle East this week to attend the decision-making in the White House. Government officials said that Obama now is more inclined to approve arms shipments to the rebels, provided they will be checked carefully to make sure that there are no Al Qaeda sources or other Islamic extremists amongst them.
