Mourning in Far Rockaway: Solitza Rebbe zt"l

In New York, the Rebbe Harh"tz R' Shmuel Shmelke Rubin zt"l, passed away at 88 • Talmid Chochom who wrote books • family ties created by marriage with families of many Rebbes

Baruch Dayan Ha'emes: In New York the Solitza Rebbe, R' Shmuel Shmelke Rubin zt"l passed away at the age of 88.

Two months ago, on a Friday night, he collapsed and lost consciousness at his Beis Midrash. Hatzala volunteers who had arrived at the scene tried to stabilize his condition and later the Rebbe was rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

His chassidim held Tehillim shifts for the recovery of Harav Hatzadik R' Shmuel Shmelke ben Alte Nechama Malka, but today he returned his soul to its Creator.

The Rebbe of Solitza zt"l, son of the Rebbe Yaakov Yisroel Yeshurun Rubin hy"d was born on 21st Adar 5686in Sersegin, Hungary, and to his mother, Alte Nechama Malka hy"d, daughter of Rabbi Chaim Dachner zt"l.

His father had a first wife who died young, the daughter of Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Moskowitz, the Solitza Rebbe zt"l and her daughter Hannah Kahana wife of Rabbi Nachman Kahane zt"l, the Spinka Rebbe of Bnei Brak, who died on sixteenth Tishrei 5737. His sister Hannah Kahana died on 8th Tishrei 5744.

The Beis Midrash of the Rebbe, a talmid chochom, author of several books and known for his brilliance, is located in Far Rockaway. The Rebbe zt"l created family ties with the various hassidus and is mechutan with many rebbes.

He is survived by a dor yeshorim mevorach: his son, Harav Yaakov Yisroel Yeshurun Rubin, the young Rav of Solitza, his second son Harav Asher Yishaiah Rubin zt"l, Rebbe of Koznitz, died two years ago in Av.

His sons in-law: the Rebbe of Rofshitz, Harav R' Nachum Ephraim Teitelbaum Av Beis Din Volve, and Harav Hatzadik R' Yisroel Eliezer Hager, Hasidic Rav in Jerusalem of Seret Vizhnitz, and the Rebbe of Desh, Williamsburg.

The funeral will leave this morning from the Beis Midrash of Solitza in Far Rockaway. His coffin will arrive in Israel and will be buried in the cemetery in Safed.
