Tonight (Sunday), at around 21:39, a report was received concerning a father of five aged 46, who his children aged 13 and 15 went into the water in the beach in Ashdod, and he went after them to take them out. The children were removed from the water, but the father was left inside.

With the assistance of police and marine police helicopter performed scans for about an hour. ZAKA unit's divers also were called to the beach, to assist in searches, hoping to quickly find the drowned man.

Following searches the father was found unconscious and taken to the marina, where MDA and Hatzalah rescue forces performed life-saving resuscitation, the end of which a physician pronounced his death.

This is a family living in Ramat Beit Shemesh B, who probably arrived to bathe on the beach. The deceased is the father, Rabbi Shimon Shmuel Abraham belonging to the congregation of Rabbi Elchanan Peretz Shlita.
The one who reported the drowning to the police is the wife of the deceased, who told police that after she and her husband saw that the children are unable to get out of the water, he immediately ran into the water, helped his sons get out, but he had disappeared. I immediately called the police.

Avraham Kapp, commander Zaka Beit Shemesh told B'Chadrei Charedim: "I'm now at the police station in Ashdod, in order to release the body of the deceased, and take him to Beit Shemesh, where the funeral will be held tomorrow morning at the city cemetery."
Moshe Weitzman, Hatzalah paramedic, told B'Chadrei Charedim: "This is a tragedy, a father enters the water due to the children drowning and dies, the children came out of the water when they are alive and well - and the father was found after a long search by police maritime unconscious. I and other paramedics performed resuscitation - but to no avail. Large police and rescue units operated to locate him.
Chaim Weingarten, head of operations ZAKA told B'Chadrei Charedim, that the sea is stormy today with waves of about six feet. A parent, who saw his sons begin to drift, entered the water and managed to extract them safely. However, when the children came out, another wave came and swept him away. Maritime police forces were rushed to the scene, as well as a police helicopter and divers unit of ZAKA. Fifteen minutes later, he was found by the maritime police boat while unconscious and following CPR was pronounced dead. ZAKA volunteers removed the diving clothes, and treated the dignity of the dead.
MDA spokesman, Zaki Heller said the call came in at 22:13 to MDA Lachish on a father who apparently went to get his children from the water and was swept away at the Ashdod Marina beach. MDA drivers on motorcycles as well as MICU and 4X4 vehicles of MDA medics and paramedics of MDA rushed to the scene to provide medical care and resuscitation was performed on a man of about 45 who was pulled up from the water near the marina shore and at the end he was pronounced dead.
