Cleared for publication: In a joint activity of the ISA and the central unit of the Israel Police Central District, Abed El-Kader Altelah, resident of Taybeh who came to Syria to join the rebel forces struggling against the Syrian regime - was arrested on July 14, 2013.
Altelah, aged 26, a student of Pharmacy in Jordan, met during his studies Iraqi and Palestinian students, supporting Salafist jihad ideology underlying the precepts of Al - Qaeda, and under their influence began to sway to the Salafi ideology and strengthened his faith.
In his interrogation by ISA, Altelah admitted that he came to Syria to join the jihad against the Syrian army, and that he contacted the Alnotzra Jabhat organization representative, an organization recognized as a body which is part of the global jihad infrastructure in the region, and enlisted to its ranks.
It is noted that the phenomenon of Israeli Arabs who go out to Syria, there lies a potentially serious risk. That is due to the exposure of the Syrian arena to activities of hostile factors towards Israel, with an emphasis on "global jihad." Thus, Arab Israelis traveling to Syria, along with military training which they undergo there, are exposed to the extreme ideology of "global jihad" and under its effect may be exploited by terrorists to obtain information on Israeli targets and carry out terrorist acts against it.
On 9 August, 2013, an indictment was submitted to the Lod District Court against Abed El-Kader Altelah for offenses of contacting a foreign agent, illegal exit.
