Monsey concerned: Haredim's representative defeated in primaries
Primary elections for the Democratic candidate for Rockland County Manager, David Fried won • Ilan Schoenberger, supported by Haredim, was defeated • "concerned to have a hard term'

Defeat for the Haredi community in Monsey in primary elections held yesterday for Rockland County in New York State.
In primary elections for the Democratic candidate, David Fried defeated Ilan Schoenberger who was supported by the Haredim.
Now haredi vote contractors and activists in Monsey are trying to lick their wounds to find the reason for the collapse and total failure of the Haredi community.
Fried is a young judge who was defined as tough and gray, and against him ran Ilan Schoenberger, 70, who served for many years in senior positions and has helped the Haredi public.
Activist Rabbi Chaim Meir Glick sounded worried and annoyed today: "I still do not grasp what happened here," he said, "we must examine how to minimize the damage, for this term will be one of the difficult tenures for the Haredi deals in Monsey and the public in general.
"The Monsey community," he said , "has been known for many years as one of the united communities in the United States, other Haredi communities came to learn from us activists, how to bring about such unity. And here, this unity collapsed in front of my face. Two hours before the polls closed, I called the public to show up and save the day, but the turnout was less than a third lower than the normal voting in elections we're used to seeing. The public knew the alternative to politicians we supported, the alternative is haters of Haredim who built their campaign on the basis of this hatred. Despite this they were indifferent and did not show up at the ballots."
In fact both candidates sought the support of Haredi public. But community leaders decided that gratitude requires voting for Schönberger. Fried however reached an agreement with representatives of the Orthodox that they will not conduct a campaign against him, and will not conduct an aggressive campaign for Schoenberger. Therefore it is argued, the candidate was defeated.
So too other candidates supported by the Haredim were defeated.
