Attorney Zivin assisting in the case tells Behadrey Haredim: "Tomorrow the Rabbi will be brought for extension of detention; if he objects to extradition - the legal process will take longer"

Rabbi's Attorney: "Extradition can take two years"

Community leader of Shuvu Banim Rabbi Eliezer Berland, who was arrested this morning at around 9:00 am (local time) at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport was detained in the detention center at the airport police station.

The attorneys who represent Rabbi Berland are attorneys Prof. Herman Lowenstein and Yisrael Lowenstein (son of Herman).

Attorney Mordechai Zivin, assists primarily with issues related to the Israeli law, said in a conversation with Behadrey Haredim that "tomorrow Rabbi Berland will be brought extension of detention and the next few days we will know whether he'll be extradited to Israel or resist, if he opposes the case, the legal process can be even two years ".

Zivin adds that Dutch prisons are very comfortable, the existing liberal spirit are reflected among the Dutch public prosecutor's office and the judges position.

Concerning Herman Lowenstein representing Rabbi Berland Zivin says "he is one of the leaders of the Jewish community in Amsterdam, and senior lawyers in the Netherlands, and is well known as representing the Jewish community in parliament to ban kosher slaughter; in addition Herman is well known for several law faculties."

"The last twenty years, he represented the majority of Israelis who were caught in the Netherlands and managed to avoid extradition to the United States twice of a legal precedent that constituted valuable in the Netherlands".

Meanwhile, the Justice Department spokesperson confirmed that "this morning at the airport in the Netherlands Rabbi Eliezer Berland was arrested. Arrest was made at the request of the State Attorney's international department, issued an arrest warrant Lahav 433 Crimes of the Israel Police through Interpol.

"Israel intends to seek the extradition of a (Rabbi) Berland to Israel for trial. Noted that Israel and the Netherlands signed by both the European Convention on Extradition.
