Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman spent Yom Kippur fasting, while he prayed in a small minyan in his home with his family members and associates. The chazzanim were his chavrusa Hagaon Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Schneider, his associates Rabbi Isser Shub and Rabbi Eliezer Kaplan and his grandchildren Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Edelstein and Rabbi Noah Steinman. It should be noted that R' Aharon Leib did not say Kiddush Levana before Yom Kippur, because during the ten days of repentance he had expressed himself that he does not have joy, because he does not know if he will be able to fast. Around 11:30 pm this evening R' Aharon Leib held Kiddush Levana at his home on Hazon Ish Street, and then greeted the public with 'shana tova'.
At the Beis Midrash of Hagaon R' Shmuel Wazner, the Shevet Halevy – Chachmei Lublin Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, the opening of the Ark during shachris was bought for the amount of NIS 150 thousand by the benefactor David Katz from the USA.
In Boyan: After Kol Nidre at the 'kloiz' on Malchei Yisrael Street in Jerusalem, the Rebbe came out of his room and asked all Hassidim to repeat after him the sentence, word for word, "I forgive every one wholeheartedly" which is said in "tefillas zaka". As known in Boyan, the Rebbe does not come out of his room all day until Neila.
In Seret-Viznitz: the Rebbe's aliya was bought for 28 thousand shekels. The Rebbe served as chazan at Kol Nidrei and Maariv, and after the tefilla they sang Shabbos songs. The Hasidim mark today the 90th birthday of the Rebbe, who came up for part of Neila, and at the Tisch at the end of Yom Kippur the bochurim 'gave' the Rebbe as a gift thousands of consecutive learning hours.
At Nadvorna: Maftir Yonah was sold for the Rebbe at 15 thousand dollars, while the buyer is the rabbinical benefactor Moshe Gross from USA. At the end of the fast the Rebbe blew the shofar about a quarter of an hour after Rabbeinu Tam, and on Motzaei Shabbos the Rebbe held a seudah at him home for all the guests from abroad.
At Toldos Aharon: Maftir Yonah was purchased for 11 thousand dollars by the benefactor Ridder from the United States, who bought for himself. Each year it is purchased for approximately $2,000, and this year too it started at this amount until it climbed to 11,000. Additionally, two boys fainted during the afternoon prayers.
At Lelov: the hundreds of Hasidim were alert following a long-lasting campaign during Elul, titled ' Beis Tzadikim Yaamod', and details were promised at the tisch following Yom Kippur. Indeed, tonight at the tisch which is held to mark the five-year anniversary of the death of the Rebbe Shimon of Lelov, of blessed memory, who passed away on the night of Holy Day, it was declared by the Rebbe to establish a fund 'Shekel Hakodesh' to help Lelov Hasidim. The Rebbe immediately gave his first contribution in honor of the new venture.
At Pittsburgh in Ashdod: for the first time in twenty years the Rebbe did not serve as chazzan due to the fact that his voice is not heard well because of his weakness, and instead of him were his sons Harav Hatzadik R' Meshulam Leifer and R' Yaakov as chazzanim.
At Rachmastrivka: Kol Nidrei was prolonged due to the late entry of the Rebbe, at 9:00pm instead of 7:00pm. Neilla was concluded by the Hasidus at 8:30pm.
Hagaon Hatzadik Rabbi Eliezer Berland, Shuvu Banim community leader, spent Yom Kippur on a quiet island in North Holland - a two and a half hour drive from Amsterdam, along with 400 of his followers and admirers. Ma'ariv finished at 12: 00 at night and the Rabbi served as chazzan in all prayers except for Neilla, at which Rabbi Yehoshua Dov Rubenstein, father of Mayor Meir Rubinstein of Betar Illit, was chazan. Rabbi Berland did not get an aliyah as two aliyahs were given to two Bar Mitzvah boys.
