Athens: anti-Semitics vandalized Holocaust memorial

Anti-Jewish graffiti were discovered during last weekend on the memorial for the victims of the Holocaust victims stationed in Athens, capital of Greece.

The monument is a marble structure designed in the shape of a broken Star of David and the six triangles cut off from the center and placed an equal distance from it. Vertex each of them tends triangles of Greek towns and villages from which residents were expelled on their way to extermination.

On parts of the building engraved names of places where the Jews were expelled. The center of the Star of David symbolizes the whole survival of the nucleus of the community and re-bloom. The monument was established and funded by the City of Athens and placed with the creation of the city center, close to the Acropolis and near the synagogue on Mlidoni, where, during the Holocaust, about 350 Jews were caught in the synagogue during the German occupation of Greece and arrived at the scene following the rumor turned out to be false - that Gestapo were handing out matzah. Upon arrival, they were deported to Auschwitz and most were killed.

Deputy Prime Minister of Greece, Avnglus Venizelos said in response to the event that he ordered the authorities to do all they can to capture the culprits and bring them to justice.

The local media reported that it was in Greece for the second time in the past year that had been hurt and desecrate the monument which became a symbol and creates a local storm. According to the report, one of the stones in blue ink sprayed members of the organization's name. This is an anti-Semitic organization that defines itself a radical nationalist.

The Jewish community in Athens called the police to capture the culprits and bring them to justice.
