Williamsburg furious: mezuzah lighter was acquitted

Anger in the haredi community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn: Supreme Court acquitted yesterday (Wednesday) Robin Obals, who was suspected of setting fire to 11 Mezuzash in a high-rise building in the neighborhood.

The incident occurred a year ago in April 2013, on the night of "Holocaust Day" when the security cameras in the building where Orthodox families live, recorded it entered the building at night, the next day found eleven Mezuzah doors torn, scorched and torn to pieces.

Obals was arrested a day after the incident and confessed, but later Obals claimed that he does not remember anything as he was under the influence of drugs.

The prosecutor reminded the jury that when arrested admitted that he sparked the mezuzahs, but Obal's lawyer argued that there is no evidence that he did so, though security camera recorded he entered the building.

The jury acquitted Obals of torching mezuzahs but convicted him of breaking into the house.

Note that Obals already has forty priors and is well known to the police. Williamsburg community is angry and shocked by Obals's acquittal.
