s Shas finished? Sample Institute survey conducted for the program "Meet the Press" on News 2, which aired last night, brings the alarming figure that in a survey of the general public, more than 50 percent believe that "ended its role".

According to the survey, 45 percent of the Sephardic Jews claim that Shas did not help them at all during its existence. This compares to 41 percent in whoseopinion there is still a role for Shas. 20 percent of respondents think that Shas has done damage, compared to 30 percent who believe that Shas helped them.

Information from the headquarters of Shas said to Behadrey Haredim: "Shas is the only party which prizes concern for Oriental Jews and the disadvantaged in Israel.

"Shas has proven in every election that it wins the polls, but even if we rely on the survey in question, then 41% of Israeli Sephardim believe that Shas is the party which is concerned with them, and it suffices if half of them will vote for Shas for it to be the largest party in Israel."
