Tragedy: Gabai of Chug Chasam Sofer collapsed in shull

Baruch Dayan Ha'emes: in Bnei Brak, died suddenly at the end of Shabbos Rabbi Chaim Kahn, gabbai of Hagaon Rabbi Yitzchak Shlomo Unger zt"l - Av Beis Din Chug Chasam Sofer and yibadel lechayim Hagaon Rabbi Y.M. Altman - the Rebbe of Chasam Sofer. He was 66 upon his death.

The deceased z"l davened as usual at the 'Chug Chasam Sofer' shull on Harav Maimon Street in Bnei Brak, where he collapsed suddenly and lost consciousness.

Drives of Ichud Hatzala Hatzala Gush Dan and MDA were called to the scene, performed life-saving resuscitation, but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the synagogue.

Ushi Abeles, Ichud Hatzala paramedic, told Behadrey Haredim that while driving on Harav Maimon Street he received a call about a man who collapsed in shull and immediately went inside. "I started resuscitation, when Rabbi Altman said Tehillim along with the crowd for his recovery." After an hour there was no choice and unfortunately he was pronounced dead on the scene."

The deceased was born on 23rd Cheshvan 5709. In his youth he studied at 'Chug Chasam Sofer' yeshiva, and since then has served as the Rosh Yeshiva Hagaon Harav Unger zt"l to whom he was dedicated with he was considered his faithful gabbai.

Even after Harav Unger's death, he continued his role as gabbai with the Rebbe Hagaon Harav Altman.

Everyone is shocked in the community, he was utterly dedicated to the community and institutions and to the Av Beis Din. He was welcoming to all, could not see a child and not relate to him, and was loved by all.

The funeral will leave tonight (Motzaei Shabbos) at 23:00 from the Chug Chasam Sofer Beis Midrash on 18 Maimon Street in Bnei Brak to the Vizhnitz cemetery, where he will be interred.
