American response: Recognition OF Palestinians?

According to US reports, the US government may recognize Palestinians steps for a Palestinian state.
Washington officials said that the Obama administration might now agree to a decision of the UN Security Council for a two-state solution based on the '67 borders and territorial exchange'.
"The premise of our position in the world was to support direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians," said a senior White House official to the New York Times. "We are now a reality in which the Israeli government no longer supports direct negotiations. So clearly we need to make decisions about the future of the negotiations", he said.
