Burnt mother screamed: Help, my children are inside

Shock in New York: Seven Jewish children of the Sasson family, perished in a fire that broke out today (Saturday) at their home on Bedford Avenue, in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY.

Firefighters, who were called to handle a fire shortly after midnight, removed the lifeless children from the home. The mother and adult daughter, jumped from the window of the house.

Among the dead, Yaakov Sasson 5 years old, Sarah Sasson 6 years old, Moshe Sasson 8 years old, Yehoshua Sasson 10 year old, Rivka, 11, David, 12, and 15-year-old Elisha.

Some of the children were found dead at the scene, others died in hospitals to which they were evacuated. Please pray for Zipporah bat Gila, and Gila bat Zipporah found in critical condition.

This is a family belonging to the Halabim community members of Brooklyn. For many years the family lived in Har Nof and Ramat Eshkol in Jerusalem since 1998. Recently the family returned to New York.

An initial investigation shows that the disaster occurred following a malfunction of the hotplate.

A police source said the fire broke out in the kitchen of the apartment and the smoke spread to the rooms on the second floor where the children slept in five bedrooms. The father was not home at the time at home and attempts were made to locate him.

"This is the greatest tragedy that occurred in the city in the last seven years. Family, community and the entire city," said Daniel Nigro, commander of the firefighters in New York.

"I heard a child screaming," Mommy! Mommy, help me!" Said a tearful neighbor, Andrew Rosenblatt, 65." I looked out the back window, and saw large flames and smoke. "

This is a 3-storey building; witnesses said that the mother begged for someone to help her save her children after she jumped from the window of the second floor with her daughter.

I heard the mother screaming, "My kids are in there! My kids are in there! Get them out! Get them!" Said neighbor Nate Weber, who lives a few blocks down. "The mother was out there," recalls Weber. "She was burned, she jumped out of the window, and there is still blood on the floor.
