US activist: I will work on behalf of Haredi prisoners

Governor Reb Benjamin Barber, a leader activist in the ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Boro Park, met today (Monday) during a tour of the Knesset with Shas chairman Minister Aryeh Deri, Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman, Minister of Religious Affairs David Azoulay, chairman of the Education Committee Yaakov Margi and Finance Committee Chairman Moshe Gafni.

Barber, who visited the Knesset as a guest of the Secretary-General of the United Torah Judaism Yaakov Asher, met with the heads of parliamentary groups and was highly acclaimed for his work for ultra-Orthodox prisoners within the United States. Barber set up the Dror organization a decade ago, which provides free legal services to each prisoner, and was involved in the release of dozens of ultra-Orthodox who owe the world to him.

As part of the 'Dror' organization, Barber served as emissary of Gedolei Yisroel and Torah sages often approached him for assistance for Haredim sent to jail. Barber himself was a member of staff associates of US Attorney General and worked for many years for the ultra-Orthodox prisoners.

During a conversation with Minister Aryeh Deri and deputy minister Yaakov Litzman, Barber briefed them about developments of the prisoner Mordechai Yitzchak Samett, who will be released for his son's wedding next month. Barber who is visiting Israel received blessings from Gedolei Yisroel who strengthened and reinforced him for his activities.
