IDF forces continued throughout Saturday searching for the terrorist who carried out the execution attack which killed Danny Gonen hy"d aged 25 from Lod, near the settlement of Dolev on Friday afternoon.
Although no one has yet officially taken responsibility for the attack, Palestinian media reported Saturday that a Hamas cell that operated kidnappers and killed the three boys' last year, Marwan Kawasma and Amer Abu Aisha, carried out the shooting at the car near the West Bank settlement of Dolev.
The investigation so far indicated that Gonen came along with his friend to the spring Ein Bovine, near the settlement of Dolev on Friday afternoon. During their trip they called a friend who lives in Dolev and told him that they feel safe and want to come to his house.
The two got into the vehicle and began driving toward their friend. After a few minutes, the terrorist stopped the two men and asked them if there is water in the spring, and in the process pulled a gun out of a bag and fired several shots of 9 mm.
The terrorist escaped on foot to one of the villages in the area, and IDF and Shin Bet are making efforts to capture him.
Despite the reports, a senior officer in the Judea and Samaria Division emphasized that there was no warning for the attack in the region. Apparently they were not aware of the directive which requires Israelis to coordinate their arrival of the security danger posed.
"We believe in the ability of the security forces and IDF sure to catch the terrorists who carried out the attack, but unfortunately, as long as the incitement and the attacks will continue the State of Israel must nip it in the bud," said Yesha Council. "The Israeli policy of containment against unbridled incitement against Jews in Arab media and official textbooks must be stopped. The Israeli government and security forces must deal severely with incitement terrorist just as they are treating terrorists who carried out the attack".
His funeral will be held tonight at 23:00 at the cemetery in his hometown.
