Brooklyn: Haredim will grow "glatt kosher" marijuana

Two chassidim with a New York company, faced the concession to produce medical marijuana and promise to produce a "kosher" medical marijuana. They say that already they received a promise for kashrus certification from two world-renowned bodies.

Several months ago, the New York State issued a tender to create medical marijuana; its five factories are approved to manufacture marijuana. Tender was approached by 43 companies, including a company owned by Michael Melnick - a Gur Hasid, and Aryeh Friedman - a Satmar Hasid, both of which have a number of nursing homes across the United States, and they decided to compete for the coveted certificate - a substantial profit on the side.

At the same time, the mayor of Schenectady Ministry of Health sent a letter of introduction, in which he notes that New York is the largest city throughout the United States the number of Jews who observe kashrut, and providing franchise to a orthodox kosher company to create medical marijuana, will allow any resident of the State of New York who consumed drug use which – kashrus authorities say, they could also essential medicine without having to go against the religious laws.

Haredi society have said that they are preparing to build the plant for the production of kosher marijuana in the "Ulster County", and own an area of 12 hectares ready for sowing marijuana that are preparing to grow.

The legitimacy product has risen on the agenda of jurisprudents in New York. Rabbi David Bleich, a professor of Talmud at Yeshiva University, said that the marijuana-shaped pills should not require special approval, but in the form of capsules or liquid, there may be kashrus problems, and especially marijuana in edibles, needs kashrus supervision just like any other cookie. Rabbi Moshe Elefant, who heads the Global Kashrus System OU said several times that the kashrus system positively considers granting a certificate to kashrus products containing marijuana.
