Riots in Kiev: one killed

One killed and more than a hundred wounded outside the Ukrainian parliament during a vote on autonomy for separatists

Thousands of protesters clashed this morning (Monday) with police near the parliament building in Kiev, capital of Ukraine, while lawmakers gathered to discuss constitutional changes designed to give the eastern provinces a special autonomy status.

The demonstrators, protesting outside the parliament in Kiev on the intention to expand the autonomy to separatist regions in Donbass, threw smoke bombs and grenades. Some of them were arrested while trying to break in.

According to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, a grenade was thrown during the demonstration and killed a policeman and wounded about a hundred people.

Prime Minister of Ukraine, Arseniy Iitziniok, said: "we demand a life sentence to the man who threw a grenade and caused the death of a policeman."

Ukrainian lawmakers approved the "Law of decentralization" in the first reading, 265 members of the House in favor, 87 lawmakers opposed. The assessment is that the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, will not have a majority in the second reading.
