Volkswagen's huge pollution fraud: 11 million cars involved

The company has already announced that it will allocate 6.5 billion Euros to tackle the problem - and issued a profit warning

Volkswagen automotive company, whose shares have collapsed before the holiday by more than 20% after admitting that it cheated on air pollution data in some of its vehicles, reported that about 11 million vehicles worldwide were involved in the fraud.

According to the company, in the software used to cheat the test systems for gas emission, was installed in 11 million cars worldwide. The company issued a profit warning due to recent events that will require it to make amendments to these cars, to meet the standards related to air pollution.

The US Environmental Protection Authority is the one that revealed the fraud. Volkswagen said that about half a million cars in the United States are involved.

The company has already announced that it will allocate 6.5 billion Euros to address the issue. This, it should be noted, is for diesel engine cars only.
