The Israeli-Palestinian conflict does not center around the territories, agreements or future peace, but rather on the popular social network: Just as during the operation 'Tzuk Eitan' in the summer of last year, Facebook is once again in the headlines when it is used as a platform to stoke the fire between the two sides.

In recent days the social network is once again criticized that it is not doing enough to reduce and censor the wild incitement running in different statuses.

Over the weekend, the social network blocked two high-profile accounts on Facebook. Yesterday (Saturday) it was Hussam Badran's profile, spokesman for the Hamas, who was removed from the social network. Badran, who was released from an Israeli jail in the past as part of the release deal of Gilad Shalit, used to commend and urge attacks against Israel on his Facebook page. Previously, he served as commander of Hamas' military wing in the West Bank and was involved with the planning of various suicide attacks. Apparently, his account has been blocked in light of complaints received about his various pronouncements on the social network.

Writing on the Wall
At the same time, Facebook has decided to block the profile of Yoav Eliasi, known as the "shadow", who is considered one of the leading figures on the extreme right of the social network recently. Facebook blocked his personal profile, but Eliasi continues his rightist teachings through the Facebook page of "The Shadow".

Also, the "Shadow" has launched in recent days a new website, on which he uploads posts, photos and videos. Eliasi wrote that "due to the denial of freedom of speech under the auspices of the radical Left and the dictatorial regime of Facebook, as of today I run my operations from the new site."

In parallel to actions taken by Facebook last weekend, yesterday an Israeli took act of protest against the social network and its local branch. The "Mizbala" (dump) site published this morning that an Israeli named Rotem Gez sprayed and hung up graffiti against the Facebook policy, written in English, "Blood on your hands", at the company's Israeli office on Rothschild Street in Tel Aviv. Gez previously made headlines after he changed his name to Mark Zuckerberg at the Interior Ministry, like the name of the Facebook CEO, after being sued by the social network for the sale of "Likes".

Lawsuit against Facebook?
These actions come against the backdrop of a tense week in face of Facebook's conduct. Similarly, last week the organization "Shurat Hadin" announced that is trying to mobilize the Israeli public opinion to file a lawsuit against Facebook that it is lending a hand to terrorism, by means of Berkman law firm based in New York.

A page opened by the organization states that "Terrorists do not come by themselves. They write posts, they encourage their friends to kill Jews. Facebook has become a an anti-Semitic hotbed of murder. Join us for a lawsuit against Facebook – to close the pages of incitement and stop terror".

Attorney Nitzana Darshan-Leitner, chairman of the organization "Shurat Hadin", was quoted that "This is likened in its importance to the increase of security operations with the aim to prevent terrorism. Facebook has now become a paradise for terrorists: they publish their actions on their Facebook pages, gain support, receive instructions and guidance to murder Jews - all sponsored by a commercial company that has the power to stop it easily. While Facebook makes do with words and tells us that it intends to 'download pages of incitement' - web pages are filled with severe incitement by the minute and we must do everything to stop it."
