Victims' names had been released from the Otniel attack on Friday, Rabbi Yaakov Litman (44) and his son Nathanel (18) HYD from Kiryat Arba. The funeral will be tonight at 21:00 at Mount of Rest in Jerusalem.
The family were on their way from Kiryat Arba to a Shabbat Chatan towards the marriage of their daughter expected next Tuesday. On Friday night all the injured were released from the hospital.
During extensive searches in the South of Mount Hebron after the terrorist, a car which was abandoned and set on fire was discovered in the town of Dura. The connection between the vehicle and the terrorists is being examined, their whereabouts are still unknown.
The attack occurred on Route 60, near the town of Othniel in the southern Hebron hills – on Friday shortly before 15:00, a Palestinian terrorist opened fire at point-blank range at the Littman family members traveling with the family's vehicle near the intersection of Othniel, north of the intersection of Samoa. The terrorist awaited them in ambush in advance.
In the attack, three were hit – the father, Yaakov HYD (44) and his son Nathanel HYD (18), a 16-year-old son was lightly wounded by gunfire in the leg. The mother too was injured lightly. In addition, three girls were evacuated to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba as anxiety victims. According to reports, the victim's son reported the incident, and then the terrorist shot him and murdered him as well.
The terrorist escaped travelling south toward Beersheba. Security forces have conducted extensive searches in the area. In the town of Dura, south of Hebron, a vehicle was found abandoned and torched. Security forces are checking whether this vehicle was used by the terrorists who killed Yaakov and Nathanel HYD.
We continue on
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered his condolences and said "we'll get to the heinous murderers and we will meet out the measure of the law with them, as we did before." Netanyahu added that Israel will continue to fight terror wherever necessary.
Malachi Levinger, mayor of Kiryat Arba responded: "Rabbi Yaakov was one of the dedicated teachers in our city. A teacher who gave the children of Kiryat Arba - Hevron Torah and knowledge on various subjects and above all did everything warmly and with a constant smile which inspired a lot of good on all his surroundings. Nathanel was of the precious boys of Hevron who volunteered and gave of his time at MDA and who was a young plant and flower, who had a great future.
"The community of Kiryat Arba is stunned and grieving at the murder a few days before the wedding of the daughter and sister but in parallel Kiryat Arba and Hebron will continue to draw courage and strength from knowing that ultimately the continuation of settlement and living here are the real victory over the evil that tries to harm the whole world. We will continue with all the pain and cry out: let us be strong and strengthened for our people and for the cities of our G-d".
