Lakewood: run over attempt ended in miracle

A young Hispanic-looking man tried to run over a group of haredi girls who were walk the streets of Lakewood on Friday night.

The incident occurred on Friday night at around 9:30 pm, close to the haredi neighborhood of West Gate, when a group of girls who were strolling in the neighborhood noticed a white car as it raced toward the side of the road.

The girls quickly fled away, and the vehicle screeched to a stop alongside the road - where the girls had previously walked.

The event ended miraculously without injury, but the frightened girls were able to see that this was a Hispanic driver who rushed to drive away. After they called for help, a Hatzalah volunteer who lives nearby arrived and called the police.

Police opened an investigation that included collecting security tapes from the nearby houses with the aim of arresting the man.
