Haredi philanthropist killed in a car accident in Antwerp

Baruch Dayan Ha'emes – in Antwerp, on Saturday night, the elder Rabbi Mordechai Viderker z"l was killed in a car accident, after being hit by a passing car on the road on his way to his daughter, he was 93 years old.

Passers-by noticed him lying on the road, they alerted the rescue services who fought for his life for a long time, until he returned his soul to its Creator. Antwerp residents point out that in the same place four years ago the daughter of the Rebbe of Peshversk was killed too.

The deceased z"l was born on 19th Kislev 5684 in Peshmishil to his father, the late Rabbi Yisrael who was one of the founders of the synagogue of Czortkow in Antwerp.

For his living Rabbi Viderker served as a diamond merchant, and was a man of kindness and gave money anonymously, "Whenever he would walk around town and saw an avrech or someone in need, he would give him money", townspeople relate.

Acquaintances talk about R' Mordechai as a humble and quiet man, a man of learning who set times for Torah study every spare moment. The tragic passing stunned the townspeople.

Four years ago the deceased was widowed and is survived by his respected family – his sons in law, Rabbi Moshe Meir Meirson, and Rabbi Menachem Neiman.

The funeral procession left on Sunday morning at 10:00 from Antwerp, from where the coffin was flown to Eretz Yisrael.
