A wave of terrorist attacks on Shabbos: a terrorist tried to stab this morning (Saturday), worshippers at the IDF Square returning from the Western Wall, police officers approached him for a check up and when he drew a knife, was shot to death. At noon, a soldier was lightly wounded in Hawara by a run-over attack, the terrorist was seriously injured – and later died of his wounds.
On Shabbos afternoon there was a terror attack in Hawara near Nablus, a soldier was slightly wounded, the terrorist was shot and in serious condition. The terrorist was transferred to the Palestinians and taken to Rafidia hospital in Nablus, where he died of his wounds. The soldier was taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, and was discharged at the end of Shabbos discharged.
On Shabbos morning, a terrorist tried to stab worshippers at the IDF Square after returning from the Western Wall, and was shot dead.
Policemen approached him for a check and then he pulled out a knife at them and tried to stab one of the officers. The terrorist was shot dead.
The terrorist Musab al-Ghazali, 26, a resident of Wadi Kadum in East Jerusalem, came from the Damascus Gate through the New Gate to the promenade of the Jaffa Gate. At the promenade he sat and lay in wait for victims, upon noting Jews wrapped in a tallis he got up and began to follow them in the direction of IDF Square.
A pair of cavalry officers who were on a security mission at the Jaffa Gate promenade noticed the terrorist who aroused their suspicions and followed him in the direction of the square. There, they approached the suspect with the intention to examine him, at the request of the officer the suspect gave him an identity card and put his hand inside his inner coat pocket.
The officer drew close and grabbed the hand of the suspect who struggled with him. The terrorist managed to pull out his hand holding the knife. The policemen retreated, the terrorist moved toward the policeman with a raised knife and when he did not respond to throw it, the policeman fired a single bullet at him, he fell to the floor and rose again at the policeman with a knife in his hand.
The policeman opened fire again and neutralized him. The policemen were not hurt. The policemen related: "We are pleased that we managed to put our hand on the terrorist before he could harm the worshipers in the area."
In the afternoon some 150 Palestinians gathered in the Old City, near the Cave of Zedekiah. They waved pictures and called for the return of bodies of terrorists. During the demonstration they threw stones at the security forces in place and the police dispersed the crowd with riot control measures. Once dispersed, they began throwing stones at police officers on Saladin Stret, and a suspect was arrested. On both occasions there were no casualties among the security forces.
After the start of Shabbos an override attempt was made against Border Policemen in action in the village of Silwad. The terrorist, a 38-year-old mother of four, rushed with her car at the force which realized what was happening, the fighters took up shelters and fired accurately at the terrorist, whose death was determined on the scene. There were no Israeli casualties.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the number of dead since the beginning of October stands at 139.
