Bar Mitzvah to governor of Birobidzhan

Governor of the Birobidzhan district – the Jewish autonomy in Eastern Russia, visited Moscow and put on tefillin for the first time

Bar Mitzvah to governor of Birobidzhan

Governor of Birobizhan – the Jewish autonomy which Stalin established for Russian Jews eighty years ago, in the Russian Far East bordering China, a distance of more than nine-hour flight from Moscow, capital of Russia, arrived in Moscow for a special meeting with Rabbi of Russia, Hagaon Rabbi Berel Lazar, accompanied by the Rabbi of Birobizhan and Chabad emissary, Rabbi Eliyahu Reese.
During the meeting, the governor promised to help establish a mikveh in the city, which will actually be the first of its kind in the autonomy.
The Jewish governor, Mr. Levental Alexander, was appointed governor only three months ago by the Kremlin in Moscow, also visited the Great Moscow Jewish Museum and the Jewish charity center 'Shaarei Tzedek' nearby.
Director of the Center presented him with a gift and offered him to put on tefillin at the synagogue "Tefilla Lemoshe" operating at the center. The governor agreed to the laying of tefillin, surprisingly it turned out that this is the first time he gets to put on tefillin, and in fact the first time he celebrates his Bar Mitzvah.
