"Further enhance security around Mount of Olives"

A series of urgent meetings was held by the International Committee Chairman Menachem Lubinsky, who came from the United States for a special visit to Israel to meet with government officials with the goal of restoring security to the Mount of Olives.

During his visit, the chairman of the International Committee for the Protection of the Mount of Olives, Menachem Lubinsky, met with members of the Knesset and government officials, including Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, Minister of Culture Miri Regev, the chairman of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein, Deputy Finance Minister MK Yitzhak Cohen, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and his deputy Yosef Deutsch, PMO Eli Gruner and other senior officials. The meetings of the chairman of the Committee were joined by representative in Israel, Mr. Harvey Schwartz, Josh Wonder and the Committee's strategic adviser Yaakov Bichler.

At the meetings the most important and relevant issues to the treatment of the Mount of Olives were raised, when as a priority the issue of security was discussed.

During a meeting between representatives of the International Committee for the Protection of the Mount of Olives with Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, participants discussed practical measures to increase security on the way to the Mount of Olives and the access to it. To the meeting was joined by Mr. Malcolm Hoenlein, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of the United States who serves as a friend of the International Committee for the Protection of the Mount of Olives.

During other meetings with other government officials and police, the parties discussed in detail the importance of deepening the Mount of Olives defense to allow the public of tens of thousands to visit the holy mountain without interference. Among others were discussed various measures to increase security, including thickening of police, fencing, security cameras, raising funds and resources from the government offices.

Knesset members and government officials thanked the heads and members of the International Committee for the Protection of the Mount of Olives that operate around the clock for years to rehabilitate and improve the situation on the Mount of Olives, when everyone agrees that the moves made in recent years, are products of the heads of the Committee which brought about significant results, but still, as befits the largest Jewish cemetery in the world, one must act and do everything so that events of violence cease and Jews will be able to come to pray at the graves of their loved ones safely.

As is well known, the Committee for the Protection of the Mount of Olives was established in recent years by the brothers Avraham and Menachem Lubinsky, who discovered the negligence at the Mount after their late parents were buried there. In recent years, the committee operates through international pressure on officialdom in Israel so that it will approve activities for protecting the mountain and the maintenance, cleanliness and dignity of the place for which the hearts of many Jews yearn. Other committee members include prominent public figures, including the chairman of the Conference of Presidents, Mr. Malcolm Hoenlein.

Thanks to the committee security incidents on the mountain were slightly reduced, but the Protection Committee emphasized that the activity will continue until achieving maximum security for all those wishing to visit the mountain.
