'Chadash assur min haTorah': women of European Rabbis met

The first conference of its kind - in the shadow of the call for reform of the leadership of communities and appointment of women to the 'rabbinate', a unique conference was held in Vienna by rabbis' wives, in which one of the leaders of conference said - "We will continue our supreme role as rebbetzins alongside our husbands the leading rabbis."

Organizations calling themselves Orthodox, recently called for community leadership reforms - and appoint women as rebbetzins at the head of Jewish communities in Europe. In light of this, about fifty rabbis' wives arrived in Vienna from Monaco, Latvia, Britain, France, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Belgium and all over Europe - in order to strengthen the continuing Jewish tradition of the leadership of communities, highlight the roles of a rabbi's wife who stands as his aide in leading the community, and to acquire tools to fulfill the important role.

The three seminar days dealing with "the role of an Orthodox Rebbetzin today ", held at the community center of Vienna under the auspices of the local community led by Rabbi Shlomo Hofmeister, and under the professional organization of Rebbetzin Charlotte Dunner, wife of the late director-general member of the Conference of European Rabbis, Rabbi Avraham Abba Dunner zt"l. The conference, the first of its kind in Europe, was held at the initiative of the Conference of European Rabbis, and was acclaimed throughout the continent.

The wives of rabbis across the continent, especially in communities where there is great importance to Kiruv, there are many designated roles to deal with, since they are the ones to give guidance to families and teach various subjects to women of the community – in the form of 'Sarah mekarevet et hanashim'.

Rebbetzin Naomi Lehrer said at the end of the conference: "The rebbetzins return to communities with renewed strength to continue our supreme role as Rebbetzins. To meet rebbetzins from all corners of Europe - even from faraway and often difficult places - was for me a source of tremendous inspiration. It was exciting to see the tremendous mesirus nefesh with which these prominent rebbetzins play their role alongside their husbands, the community leaders ".
