Disaster in Manhattan: Haredi killed by collapsed crane

Disaster in Manhattan: David Wicks, 38-year-old Haredi Jew, was killed on Friday by a crane that collapsed in the business district of Manhattan in New York.
During the renovation of a skyscraper in Lower Manhattan, a huge crane collapsed in the area, and Wicks, who was in the area, was killed instantly, other bystanders were injured.
Wicks was born in Prague and moved to the United States as a teenager with his parents, Dr. Thomas and Dr. Adela from the neighborhood of Flatbush, Brooklyn. He studied mathematics at Howard University.
After completing his studies he lived in Manhattan and worked as an economist in a financial company.
Lisa Guttman, a member of his family, told: "He was a genius in his field, a dear and beloved man who took every chance he could."
Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, said: "Because of the strong winds, the workers were going to lower the crane. Pedestrians were evacuated from the street, but despite this, the crash occurred and the tragedy which followed."
