Failed Attempt at Smuggling 40,000 Eggs into Israel
40,000 eggs originating in the PA were intercepted on the Tunnel Road as they were being smuggled into Israel.

In the first incident 36,000 eggs originating in Arab villages were intercepted on the Tunnel Rroad when the truck that was carrying them was pulled over for inspection. The driver claimed that he was transporting sand and that’s why his cargo was covered with a tarp. When the tarp was lifted the egss were revealed. These eggs were going to be sold in Yerushalayim, Beit Shemesh and Gush Dan.
The eggs which had not been stored in conditions meeting food safety standards were destroyed and the driver was taken in for questioning.
In another incident an additional 4,200 originating in the settlements and bearing forged stamps were discovered. They were going to be sold in a makolet in Yerushalyaim. Those involved were taken for questioning and the eggs were destroyed.
Since the beginning of the year the agricultural department succeeded in intercepting the smuggling of 375,800 eggs from the PA. The agricultural department is working to lower import taxes on food products to help lower the costs, and thereby make safe food readily available and reasonable prices. The agricultural department has banned the sale of eggs that have not undergone supervision since production, have not been stored at proper temperatures, and have not been transported under conditions that meet proper standards.
The agricultural department warns consumers not to buy eggs on the street, but to be careful to purchase them only from licensed vendors. Eggs should be stored at temperatures under 20 degrees, they should be stamped with the name of the marketing company, the name of the sorting company, a sell by date and an expiration date. They should be sold in a closed package.
