2500 Envelopes Containing 200 NIS Distributed at Levaya
Reb Chaim Yosef Goldberg zt” requested that large sums of tzedakah be distributed at his levaya according to the Tzava of Harav Akiva Eiger tz”l.

Large sums of Tzedakah were distributed during the levayah of the Yerushalmy Gadol B’chessed, Harav Chaim Yosef Goldberg zt”l, one of the biggest baalei tzedkah and chessed of the generation. This was done according to the Tzava of Harav Akiva Eiger and upon the request of the niftar.
Bhadrey Hareidim has learned that at least 2500 envelopes were distributed- each one containing 200 NIS. A number of Gabaei Tzedaka mingled with the crowd and distributed the envelopes to Avreichim wo appeared to be in need.
Many people converged on the levaya as rumors of the distribution circulated in the city. The Mytologicla Gabay Tzedekah, Reb Chaim Turchin was present and involved in the distribution of the envelopes. Due to the heat and the crush of the crowd he nearly collapsed and needed to be quickly extricated

The following was written on each envelop:
והלך לפניך צדקך. מצוואת רבי עקיבא איגר בשעת הלוויה יחלקו פגים כמניין שמו עקיבא וכו'. נא ללמוד משניות לעילוי נשמת שר החסד בדרונו רבי חיים יוסף בן רבי יצחק זצ"ל גולדברג". .The Levaya went out from the Yeshiva of Reb Meshulam Dovid Halevi Soloveitchik shlita, who was the Niftar’s Rav. The Rav broke his long standing minahg and for the first time since his father’s levaya 56 years ago he walked after the mita all the way down Rechov Givat Moshe.
