Avichai Mandelblit decided to forbid the planned Birkat Konanot ceremony from being held at the Kosel.
Mandelblit's office released the following statement: " a meeting was held today with representatives of the Prime Minister's office, the Ministry of Religious Services, the Rav of the Kotel and members of the Judicial Office.
"The Rav Hakotel and the Ministry of Religious Services stated their claim that the contested ceremony is not in line with the "minhag hamakom" at the Kotel Plaza.
"It was also stated that ther is no such religious ceremony as "Birkat Koahanot" and therefore has never taken place at the Kotel Plaza. Therefore the ceremony is forbidden according to the second clause of the law that safeguards religious sites that are important to the Jews. The governments Judicial Counsel has found this stand to be legal."
Therefore the mass protest planned for Sunday is canceled.
Minister Dovid Azulai has stated "…the ceremony has been found to be illegal…the police will help to insure that it does not take place."
