Harav Chaim Kanievsky on Travelling to Meron
Whoever is a big massmid could also learn while travelling. But whoever isn't a massmid does not need to be given another way to waste time from Torah learning

Bechadrey Charedim has heard that Harav Chaim Kanievsky was asked about going up to the kever of Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai on Lag Baomer.
He answered," Whoever is a big massmid could also learn while travelling. But whoever isn't a massmid does not need to be given another way to waste time from Torah learning."
When Harav Kanievsky was asked in the past he answered that there is a minhag to travel to Meron on Lag Baomer and that one should not make light of a minhag.
Harav Shaya Epstein who is close to the Rav said," When the Rav was still around the county to serve as sandak by brissim, he was invited to a bris in Meron. At the end of the bris he said," since we are close to the tziyon, let's go in and daven." He went to the tziyon and stood close by but did not prostrate himself over the grave. He then whispered tehillim next to the tziyon even though he normally says teillim behind the fence when he visits cemeteries since he holds that one should not say tehillim within daled amos of a kever.
In "Divrei Siach", a newsletter that has excepts of Harav Kanievsky's Torah, his opinion is brought down that the place of the matzeiva is not the ture resting place of Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai.
