Europe's Rabbis Gather to discuss anti-Semitism

The Conference of European Rabbis opened in Vienna this past Monday. In attendance were representatives France, Germany, Britain, Holland, Belgium, Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, Greece and Turkey.
The conference opened with a letter from Harav Shteinman, Harav Chaim Kanievsky and Harav Gershon Edelstein.

The Rabanim discussed the worrying state of the far right gaining political ground in many areas. Kashrus was also on the agenda.

The Rabanim from Belgium in particular discussed the worrying state of rising anti- Semitism throughout the content and their struggle to vamp up security for their mosdos.

President of the Conference and Rav of Moskow, Rabbi Pinchas Goldshmidt said, "We’re seeing that on one side, the radical right is getting votes in many countries. Here in Austria an extreme right-wing president was almost elected. On the other hand, we see that parties under the influence of the Islamic State and Islamism are gaining ground."

He said that Europe today is struggling with the issue of millions of potential migrants and well as the problem of Islamic terror. Because the EU is not providing appropriate security radical right wing parties are able to take advantage of the situation in order to gain a foothold in those countries.

Rabbi Goldshmidt said that two years ago the question was,"Do Jews have a future in Europe?" Now he said the question is, "Does Europe have a future?"
