“It’s a case of mistaken identity” says Netanel Iluz, son of R’ Yechiel iluz who was injured in todays (today) shooting incident in Haifa.

“My father got off the train in the center Haifa on the way to the beis din where he serves as a dayen” says Netanel. “He was then shot, it’s still not known by who and why”.
Harav Yechiel Iluz, 48, is a father of seven and resides in Migdal Ha’emek. He serves as a dayen in the local giyor beis din in Haifa.

After being treated at scene, R’ Iluz was then transferred to Rambam medical center in Haifa for further treatment. His son describes his situation as a total miracle: “the bullet hit him in the hand and waist, as a result it broke his hand. Another bullet penetrated close to his heart but he was B’’H saved. He is listed in moderate and stable condition; fully conscious and speaking with family members. He had an actual nes”.

Netanel does not know on what basis his father was shot, “My father never speaks about what he does or anything to do with it. My father has no enemies, he is very quiet and doesn’t know how to cause trouble, a tzaddik nister.”

The family was notified two hours after the incident took place, that their father was the victim. “My uncle notified us” continues Netanel “and we immediately rushed to the hospital. We are seven siblings and we took the news in total shock.”

Forty minutes after Rav Iluz was shot, another person- resident of the Karmel was unfortunately shot and killed, assumed by the same shooter. According to Netanel, his father has no connection with the second victim.

Haifa Police have requested from Haifa regional court to place a gag order on the case and anything related to it. Police are currently investigating the incident and are looking for the shooter.

Ramabam Haifa tells “Bechadrei Chareidim” that Rav Iluz is listed in moderate condition and will be undergoing surgery later today.
