SHAS taking lead on housing crisis: In light of the severe housing crisis in Yerushalayim, a meeting was held today (Tuesday) at the office of Deputy finance minister Yitschok Cohen, and was attended by MK Michael Malkieli, head of housing Deartment Avigdor Yitschaki, as well as Avraham Betzalel and Pini Ezra who are both members of Yerushalayim city council.

“Bechadrei Chareidim” uncovered that at the request of SHAS and UTJ city council members, a meeting has been scheduled for next week Wednesday, between Shas and UTJ city council members and both party’s MK’s, to discuss the housing crisis and discrimination against Chareidim on the matter. The meeting will be held in UTJ’s conference room in the Knesset.

In a letter sent by the council members to the MK’s, it reads “the community in Yerushalayim is severely suffering from the housing crisis in the city. Many young couples are forced to live in storages, parking lots, and very small units. local authorities are not advancing adequate plans to satisfy the community’s housing needs.
At the same time, local officials are advancing projects that would sufficiently satisfy the housing needs of the general population of the city”.

“We, representatives of SHAS and UTJ in the Yerushalayim city council” says the letter “request to hold an emergency meeting with the ministers, deputy ministers, and members of SHAS and UTJ in the Knesset; to join forces and decide on a route of action to advance a solution to the ongoing housing crisis in Yerushalayim.

As well, to avoid discrimination against the Chareidi community in future building plans by the municipality of Yerushalayim”.
