Four suspects, among them Hareidi men from Jerusalem, are involved in an attempt to smuggle 3,040 cellular phones at the Ben Gurion airport. They were arrested after a combined effort of the tax authorities and the customs. On Monday their arrest was prolonged.

The suspects deal with import and marketing of cell phones and at least two of them are Hareidi from the Jerusalem area.

According to suspect, they tried to smuggle advanced appliances of the type "iphone4s" and "galaxy3s", with a total value of 2 million dollars.

The import was done while presenting false information that there are 2,600 ipods worth about 34,000 dollars, but a check showed the true content of the parcel.

One of the suspects released the shipment from the customs and made his way to the Ramat Aviv neighborhood in Tel Aviv, where the others waited for him.

The customs investigators of Jerusalem surprised them, searched the vehicle and discovered the large amount of devices. They were detained for an investigation and arrested for 24 hours.

The magistrate's court judge in Jerusalem, Oded Shaham, instructed to prolong the arrest of two of the suspects until the 15th of July and the arrest of two others until the 12th of July. He claimed that the evidence shows a reasonable suspicion at a high level with regards to part of the suspects, regarding the transgressions related to them.

"From the material, a picture rises of a cunning organization with a seemingly wide scope, and with a considerable financial range. This picture points to a considerable danger. It also stems from the material that there is a real fear of disrupting court procedures", Shaham maintained in his decision.
