Chezky Kalmanowitz, senior of 'Atra' released from jail

On Thursday morning, the police instructed to release Chezky Kalmanowitz, senior member of the Atra Kadisha organization who was arrested last week on suspicion of trying to steal bones from the demarcated area in the Messilat Zion settlement, where excavations are being done.

Kalmanowitz will be sent for home arrest of 5 days.
In addition, he was forced to pay bail for the sum of 50,000 NIS. A conclusion of his release conditions was reached by the police together with his attorneys.

His acquaintances explain that the police first demanded a home arrest of 12 days, but as a result of the request to shorten the time period in exchange for a higher bail than first required, the police acceded the request.

His attorneys, Yehuda Fried and Tal Gabai, told Behadrey Hareidim yesterday: "This is another case in which arrests are done out loud and the release comes in a mellow voice ". They added that from the start they claimed that "Kalmanowitz had never broken the law and never acted violently, and in this specific incident he wasn't present at all." According to Fried and Gabai the arrests were done as an attempt to despair the members of Atra Kadisha.

"Mr. Kalmanowitz was and stayed a good and law abiding citizen. We are sure that in this case, just as in others, even an indictment will not be handed in," to their words.

In the meantime, in Meah Shearim they are planning to hold a demonstration this evening following the arrests of Leibel Deitsch, Yoel Rothchild and three other detainees from the demonstrations which were held yesterday and the day before in Kikar Hashabbat. As was reported here, the arrest of Deitch and Rothchild was prolonged until Friday as a result of the police's prosecution that it intends to given in an indictment.

News reached Behadrey Haredim that this Shabbos Leibel Deitch is supposed to celebrate his son's Aufruf, towards his marriage next week.
