Outcry: arrest of Hareidi "defector" prolonged by 24 days. Rage in her family
Devorah Leah Cohen, a 20 year old Chabbad chassida, who was arrested as defector from the IDF, was sent to prolong her arrest by 24 days in Prison 4. "The members of family received the decision with rage. There were failing attempts to reach an agreement with the prosecution". Involved factors advise to appeal against the decision. "This jail is hard on a Hareidi woman".

The military court in Jaffa prolonged the arrest of Devorah Leah Cohen, 20 years old, who was arrested last Monday as defector from the IDF, for 24 days. The hearing in her case was held in the afternoon, the decision was given later, at about 20:30pm.
The judge, lieutenant colonel Aharon Pinchas, determined that according to military ruling there are reasons of military arrests, such as in this case of harming the discipline of the army, and therefore he cannot release her for home arrest. The judge mentioned that the woman had harmed the army's discipline by having declared enlistment, arriving at the induction center and escaping from it.
Factors who are dealing with the incident advised the family to appeal against the ruling, but a decision has not been reached regarding the ways of action which will be taken.
One of those present in court told that the decision was received with great rage by the members of family.
During the hearing, the judge tried to reach a settlement between the sides. "There was an in-depth discussion and the prosecution and the woman's attorney went in to the judge's office, to try and reach an agreement – but trials failed. Like in other cases, in this case too the prosecution is adamant".
The same factor also said that according to information it holds, in Prison 4 in which she is staying, "she gets usual treatment, like others, but no doubt this is a harsh place for a hareidi woman in all terms, from issues of tznius and to kosher lemehadrin food, about which she is careful".
The woman, who belongs to the Chabbad community in Kiryat Malachi, was arrested after turning herself in when she came to the military police in Kiryat Malachi, since she and her husband planned to fly for a visit to New York and go up to the tomb of the Rebbe of Leubavitch ztk"l. They arrived in order to clarify her standing, and receive an exit permit.
