At the end of last week, the authorities of bank securities in the USA announced the closing of the international site for auctions Zeekler which activated a partner program named "Zeek Rewards".
The announcement arrived after it became clear that there is suspicion of fraud at an extent of $600 million. The American regulator defined the site as a "Fonzi fraud" which harmed more than a million users around the world. The estimation is that among them there are 50,000 Israelis, including thousands of hareidim who were victims of the fraud.
The site offered a marketing program called "Zeek Rewards" which enables to publicize the selling site, to market price offers in auctions in order to bring new clients, and to get a portion of the profits. Thousands of hareidim were drawn to the program, some of them through agents who worked on the hareidi street and convinced them to enter the field, after explaining that this is easy and sure money.
The enforcement manager at SEC, Stephen Cohen said: "The Zeek Rewards plan abused the power of the internet, and the site enticed investors by causing them to believe that they are getting an opportunity to make a profit out of the next big thing. The obligations to the investors were drastically way over the money which the company actually had. We must act quickly in order to obtain the moneys which were left, and ensure an orderly return of the investors' money".
A district judge in North Carolina yesterday took out a restraining order to freeze the estates which the managers of Zeek Rewards hold in 15 companies in the USA and abroad, encompassing about $225 million. The company is ruled by a group of Rex Ventures, under the ownership of Paul Boreks. According to a report of the Reuters Agency, Boreks agreed to cooperate with the commissionership and to reach an arrangement without admitting the crime.
The Israeli forum of Zeek Rewrads published an announcement today, according to which "Zeek has up until now made a living for millions of people according to the "Messianic vision", if you wish, of the owners, Paul Borks to bring blessing to the world. This vision will not cease as a result of an investigation or cynics who wish to dance on the blood each time there is one slip or another".
