Deep grief in the world of Chassidus. The Rebbe of Shomrei Emunim, Hagaon Hatzadik R' Avrohom Chaim Rota zt"l was niftar. Of the eldest Admorim in our generation: served as Rebbe for 65 years. Was known for his Tefilla and Tzidkus, and thousands sought to see him. His levaya will leave at 11:00am from his Beis Midrash in Bnei Brak, pass through his Beis Midrash in Yerushalayim – and continue to Har Hazeisim. Grief in the world of chassidus: the Rebbe of Shomrei Emunim, Hagaon Hatzadik R' Avrohom Chaim Rota zt"l, one of the eldest Admorim in our generation, was niftar towards midnight (Wednesday) at the age of 88, in Tel Hashomer hospital.
About three months ago he collapsed in his home in Jerusalem, and was evacuated to the Bikur Cholim hospital in a critical condition, under anesthesia and respiration. The doctors fought for his life, while Tefillos were taking place in shulls, and the Rebbe was transferred for rehabilitation in Tel Hashomer, where he underwent a complex treatment and after about a month was transferred for recuperation at a regular ward.
However, a few days ago his condition once again deteriorated, and he was transferred for treatment at the Intensive Care ward in hospital and towards midnight last night, returned his soul to his Creator.
He left behind a Dor Yeshorim Mevorach. His sons: Harav Hatzadik R' Rephael Aharon, R' Gedalia Moshe, R' Shlomo, R' Yaakov Yitzchok. His sons-in-law the Rebbes of De'esh, Radoshitz, Nashkiz and Sambor, and tens of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and descendants.
His levaya will leave from his Beis Midrash on 4 Sfas Emes street Bnei Brak, at 11am. At 13:30pm the levaya will leave from his Beis Midrash on Meah Shearim street in Jerusalem, and from there continue to Har Hazeisim, where he will be buried next to his father, the Shomer Emunim zt"l.
The Rebbe zt"l was born to his father, the Rebbe R' Aharon Rota zt"l, the Shomer Emunim, who founded in 5681 the kehilla "Yirei Hashem" in Satmer, Romania, as a chabura of avreichim who had nothing in the world besides Torah and Tefilla.
In 5788 R' Aharon came to Eretz Yisroel and founded a Beis Midrash in Meah Shearim in Jerusalem. Placing a special emphasis in his kehilla on answering Amen loudly, he changed the name of his Chassidim to "Shomer Emunim".
R' Aharon zt"l was niftar on 6th Sivan 1937, and his son the Rebbe zt"l was appointed as his successor, while his son-in-law the author of 'Divrei Emunah' was appointed as the Rebbe of Toldos Aharon.
The Rebbe zt"l – who served as Rebbe for 65 years, is the son in law of the Rebbe R' Mordechai Goldman of Zvil zt"l. His wife the Rebbetzin a"h, was niftar about two years ago.
The Rebbe was known as a Ba'al Tefilla, with a pleasant voice, according to the version and Niggunim of his father. His daily routine was inconceivable, and thousands of people came to seek his advice and blessings. With his great wisdom and perception he advised thousands of Chassidim.
During his life he published his father's books – Shomer Emunim, Noam Halevavos, Taharas Hakodesh, Mevakesh Emunah, Mitzvosecha Sha'ashuay, and Shulchan Tahor.
The chassidus of Shomrei Emunim preserves the way of the Admor R' Aharon zt"l with everything which pertains to Tefilla – the Tefilla in the Batei Midrash of the chassidus lasts for many hours.
The chassidus maintains a relative segragation and its main growth stems from natural increase and joining of Yeshiva Talmidim, who are not of the chassidus originally.
The relation to the state of Israel in the chasidus is not negative. In contrast to his brother in law the Divrei Emunah from Toldos Aharon zt"l, who as a Talmid of the Satmer way, was known as a sharp opponent to Zionism and Agudath Yisroel and belonged to the circle of the Eda Hareidis, the institutions of Shomrei Emunim enjoy government budgets.
Over the years, the Rebbe founded the suburb of Shomrei Emunim which is one of the veteran Jerusalem suburbs in Meah Shearim and Beis Yisrael, close to the Mendelbaum Gate, in which he also founded a Talmud Torah and Yeshiva.
In 1976 he moved to Bnei Brak, where he lived during most of the year and where he founded a Beis Midrash, Talmud Torah and Yeshiva on Sfas Emes street.
The Rebbe would spend the period of the Yomim Tovim in Tishrei at his home in Jerusalem, where his Chassidim came from Israel and abroad, as well as on Shavuos.
In part of the winter months, the Rebbe stayed in his vacation apartment in the southern Moshav of Tifrach, in the home of his acquaintance the donor Harav Feldman. In the vacation home there was a private Mikve and Beis Midrash.
The bochurim of the Tifrach Yeshiva which is close by, would often arrive at the Rebbe and talk to him in Limud.
During the last period he almost did not visit Tifrach, and stayed in a vacation apt. in Savyon, with his grandson and helper, Harav Aharon Glezleiler.
Eight years ago a momentum of growth started in the chassidus, and the Beis Midrash of the chassidus was founded in Ashdod, where his son Harav Hatzadik R' Aharon Rota served as Rav of the kehilla. Four years ago the chassidus founded a Beis Midrash in Beit Shemesh too, as well as a Talmud Torah on Harav Melzer st. in Bnei Brak.
