Three drop out youths arrested in confrontations with Arabs

Strong conflicts occurred between Hareidi and Palestinian boys in Shoafat over Shabbos: three drop out youths – aged 16, 18 and 19 were arrested by the police and border guard forces as suspects of stoning Arab homes in the Shoafat suburb, which is adjacent to the Ramat Shlomo suburb in Jerusalem.

The three youngsters were taken for investigation to the Shafet station.
The thin border which separates the Hareidi suburb Ramat Shlomo and the Shoafat suburb, has become a stressed zone between Hareidi and Arabs residents over the last two weeks.

Over last Shabbos, confrontations occurred between Hareidi and Arabs when tens of residents from both suburbs took part; 3 were arrested, 3 injured as well as a border guard policewoman who was attacked by one of those arrested.

This Shabbos, the conflicts ended with the arrest of the three Hareidi boys. It seems that they are fringe youth. According to some of the reports, the boys who were arrested were masked.

According to the claim of the Ramat Shlomo residents, the reason for the conflicts is the harassing of girls from the neighborhood by Arab boys, who are residents of the Shoafat suburb.

"In many cases they are the ones who start with the stone games, and all we have left to do is to give it back to them," they mentioned.

The Jerusalem police and forces of the border guard were present throughout most hours of the day, and enforced the order.
