Security officer run over to death in "hit and run" accident in Shomron
A driver who drove illegal immigrants ran over to death Lior Farchi, the security coordinator of the Sha'arei Tikva settlement, after the latter demanded of him to stop for a checkup, and escaped from the scene. The owner of the car complained about its theft and was detained on suspicion of involvement. Suspect arrested.

Lior Farchi, the security coordinator of the Sha'arei Tikva settlement, was run over to death this morning close to 9:10am on Road 505 in the Shomron. Farchi was fatally injured, and died of his wounds a short while later in Beilinson hospital, Petach Tikvah. The car escaped. A suspicion that this was an attack is being investigated.
According to suspicion, a driver who drove illegal immigrants hit the security coordinator after he signaled him to stop for a checkup. During searches in the area, the hitting car was found empty of its passengers. After searches which lasted for a few hours with the help of a helicopter, the suspect, 25 year old resident of Kfar Kassem, was located and taken for investigation by the S.B.C.(General Security Services).
The owner of the vehicle, whose car ran over the coordinator, made contact with the police about a half hour after the accident and declared that his car was stolen. He arrived at the Rosh Ha'ayin police station, where he complained that his car was stolen before the accident occurred, close to Sha'arei Tikva.
The owner of the car is a resident of Kfar Kassem, and was detained for investigation at the Rosh Ha'ayin station. The police suspect that he was involved in the accident, and that the proximity of the accident to the complaint, half an hour only, is not accidental. He was investigated by the Shay district investigators.
Lior Farchi, 40 years old, the security coordinator of Sha'arey Tikva will be buried to morrow (Monday) at 14:00pm in a military levaya at the Segula cemetery.
Amos Yaakov, the Shay district commander said: "The vehicle which drove illegal immigrants broke through the IDF barrier. The security officer tied to stop the car and block it with his body. In response, the car drew forward and intentionally ran over the security coordinator".
The chairman of the board of Shomron settlers, Beni Katzover, said in response to the attack close to Elkana: "For a long time we have been warning about the danger and the lack of pressure in activity against the illegal immigrants at the entrance to, and the exit from, barriers. My suggestion to the Defense Minister is to deal with these issues, and not with barriers to the Ariel university and dismantling of new settlements".
