Yoelish Krois' slaughter house in Meah Shearim returns to action

Premiere: On Wednesday night, a year and two months since the Jerusalem police raided the slaughter house owned by Yoelish Krois in Meah Shearim and announced closing it down, together with the municipality and the tax authorities – it is returning to action.

According to information which reached Behadrey Haredim, over the last few days the Jerusalem municipality returned the equipment which was confiscated in the raid. Meanwhile, Krois submitted a request to get an approval from the municipality to shecht in the slaughter house, in the days before Yom Kipur, and the municipality acceded his request and gave the temporary license he asked for.

Krois also submitted a request according to which he could activate the slaughter house throughout the year, but that has not yet been answered.

Krois believes that this is the timing, on Erev Yom Kipur, days in which it is customary to make "Kaparos" on chickens, which will bring the news that the slaughter house has returned to full activity to public awareness, despite the fact that the license for the entire year has not yet been received.

Last year, Krois received an approval to hold kaparos outside the slaughter house.
In order to strengthen the awareness, Krois has started a special campaign, which is destined to be published actually in secular suburbs under the heading: "We're all for saving the Meah Shearim slaughter house". He advertises a picture of one of his girls, holding a chicken and next to her the caption: "On your kaparos, pure children will make a blessing on Shabbos".

In another advertisement, the picture of Krois himself sitting next to his late father, who passed away this year, is seen. "The will of Harav Hachashuv Avrohom Moshe Krois zt"l to his son Yoelish", it said next to the picture, "the slaughter house is the last trial before the coming of Mashiach".

Krois relates that he intends to send the chickens to needy families in Meah Shearim.
In a talk with Behadrey Hareidim, he said: "I certainly hope that the approval to run the slaughter house will be given in the future too, throughout the year, and the families in Meah Shearim and those who enjoyed a shchita lemehadrin for tens of years, will be able to continue eating chickens slaughtered here".

About four months ago, the Jerusalem district attorney's office gave an indictment against Krois and Marad Tarva, an Arab who worked with him, for tax evasion in the slaughter house which he activated in the suburb.
