After many years, and under pressure from Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, the signs committee of the Jerusalem Municipality decided to allow placing electronic advertising billboards in the capital.

So far, the city has refused to allow the placement of electronic signs in the streets, for fear they might harm the environment and the special appearance of Jerusalem.

But now, businesses in the city will be able to post signs promoting themselves, like in other cities around the country.

Approval was obtained with a victory to the Haredim: the signs will not bear images of people, as demanded by the representatives and members of the religious parties.

At this stage, the Commission approved the posting of signs in the city center, but further confirmation is expected to also apply to other areas of Jerusalem.
