Seven mortar shells fell tonight (Tuesday) in the Eshkol council region in three rounds.
Three bombs fell near one of the council settlements and a few minutes later, two additional mortar shells were fired to another community council and a few minutes later two mortar shells fell near the Council.
There were no casualties or damage. Following the mortar rounds Eshkol residents were instructed to stay in protected areas.
The shooting came after an IDF officer, Captain Ziv Shilon, was injured this morning, moderately to severely from an explosion on the security fence near Kissufim.
The officer, a company commander in the Givati Brigade, was treated and evacuated by helicopter to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.
IDF forces operated in the area in an attempt to locate the terror cell responsible for the attack. The possibility of firing shells has not been denied.
The initial investigation of the incident revealed that the company commander was injured when he opened one of the gates in the sector, then the explosion occurred.
A few hours after firing a volley of rockets at the Eshkol Regional Council area, Palestinians reported that an IDF tank fired at a group of terrorists in Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip.
A terrorist was killed and three wounded moderate to severe. Casualty was Ismail Sali aged 25.
Apparently the squad prepared to continue firing rockets into Israeli territories. According to Palestinian reports, three Palestinians were injured by the gunfire, and one is considered to be in serious condition.
