Strengthening ties with Obama • Bibi: "looking forward to working together"

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met this afternoon (Wednesday) with U.S. Ambassador in Israel, Dan Shapiro.

During the meeting the Prime Minister said: "I want to congratulate President Obama for his reelection. I think the United States has proven again why it is the largest democracy in the world. Security relations between the United States and Israel are as solid as a rock. I look forward to working with President Obama to continue to strengthen these ties and further the goal of peace and security. On behalf of the people of Israel I congratulate the President, first Lady, Vice President and Mrs. Biden, their families and the American people."

Ambassador Shapiro said: "Thank you Mr. Prime Minister, on behalf of the President, the Vice President and the American people, thank you for the blessings. Americans are very proud of our method, the values of democracy and our free will. Of course the Israelis share the same values. The President enjoyed close security cooperation with you and your government during his first term, and we expect to continue this during his second term. "

As part of his 'alignment' Netanyahu told Likud ministers, ministers spokesmen and Knesset members of the party, not to speak about Obama's reelection without prior coordination with the Office of Netanyahu.

It seems that the office is concerned about careless statements that may add another dimension of cold to the already cold relationship between the two leaders.
